Fly-In & Safety Seminar

Program 2010      


September 9th to 12th, 2010 
 

Pilot sessions:

  • Russ Meyers from L-3 Communications will do a presentation on using the stormscope and how it compares to and can work with on board radar and/or XM weather.  He will also present on the all-in one Trilogy standby instrument which combines GPS DG AH and more.
  • COPA President, Kevin Psutka will discuss the latest on EAPIS, 406 ELT, AOPA/COPA joint activity/synergy, and Supreme court rulings.

SHOP TALK & FLYING FORUM:  
Lake experts, will take you through several topics of interest and answer your questions.  These include flying tips and pilot techniques as well as maintenance tips and general mechanical airworthiness discussions.

Companion activities:

  • Variety of crafts.
  • Guided nature walk.
  • Book discussion and exchange.
  • Manicures and pedicures.

Evening activities:

  • Thursday (or Friday): Killarney Provincial Park. It's considered one of Ontario Park's crown jewels and it's right next door. It's time to learn more about it.  Roel Teunissen, a park planner with Ontario Parks in Northeastern Ontario, will tell us all about it.   He is co-author of Killarney Provincial Park Canoe Guide. Roel owns a Cessna 152 but wishes he had floats.  

  • Friday (or Thursday): Ed McNeil will provide a brief presentation on invasive species and considerations for seaplane pilots.  This will be followed by a Carousel Lounge social.

  • Saturday: Western style casino night with silent auction and 50/50 draw. Proceeds go to various airplane and seaplane associations.  Get into the spirit of things, come prepared to dress the part!

Other:

  • Saturday afternoon fly-out: Roel Teunissen has arranged for a tour of the Sudbury Forest Fire Base.

  • Otherwise, afternoons are free for exploring and flying.
